NPI Reporting and Environmental Auditing

National Pollution Inventory

The National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) is a national database that tracks pollution across Australia, and ensures that the community has access to information about the emission and transfer of toxic substances that may affect them locally.

Australian, state and territory governments have agreed to legislation called National Environment Protection Measures (NEPMs), which help protect or manage particular aspects of the environment. Australian industries are required to monitor, measure and report their emissions under this legislation.

QED Environmental Services prepare the NPI submissions on behalf of some major Hospital Facilities in Western Australia, which are large enough to trigger the reporting threshold for emissions.  These are based on financial years, and reporting must be completed by the end of September for the preceding financial year.

Environmental Auditing

An Environmental Audit is a systematic, documented, periodic and objective process that assesses an organisation's activities and services in relation to;

  • Assessing compliance with relevant statutory and internal requirements
  • Promoting good environmental management
  • Maintaining credibility with the public
  • Raising staff awareness and enforcing commitment to departmental environmental policy
  • Exploring improvement opportunities
  • Establishing the performance baseline for developing an Environmental Management System (EMS)

QED Environmental Services has applied the above to various commercial and retail built assets, such as commercial buildings and shopping centres.  QED Environmental Services typically review the initiatives employed by Building Management in complying with statutory and other voluntary internal requirements.

An Environmental Audit covers areas such as;

  • Site Contamination
  • Emissions to air and water
  • Indoor air quality
  • Hazardous materials (such as asbestos) and their management
  • Waste disposal
  • Energy and water consumption
